Beautiful Sacrifice

She is a rude, potty mouthed, aloof waitress he meets at a local restaurant while in Colorado Springs fighting fires. Falyn wants nothing to do with him, but I would categorize it as going from swoony and suave, to temporarily stupid.

Jan 02, Patrycja rated it it was ok Shelves: Liked first part, hated second one. View all 5 comments. I this book!! What the hell?! Some of what went down in this book really ruined it for me. Taylor is a douche. What he did was unacceptable. Falyn was annoying. Some of the other characters in this book I swear, the Maddox brothers' stories are getting much worse. I loved Travis, Trent's story was debatable as there was that love triangle thing and unnecessary drama going on, and then Thomas or "TJ"'s was just 'meh.

Surprise, surprise, though, that Taylor managed to end up in my hate bucket as the most hated Maddox bro of all. This book just highly disappointed me. I wasted my time and money that I can never get back. View all 13 comments. Jan 13, Beverly rated it really liked it Shelves: When I first read "Beautiful Disaster" I loved the story. I adored Abby and Travis. And I was curious about the Maddox Brothers.

Now that I'm getting the chance to meet them one by one nothing out of the extraordinary is happening. Taylor is sexy. It's a Maddox so pretty much he can't help it. Falyn, our heroine, I kinda like her. Just a little bit. The whole "Beautiful Sacrifice"? This is where the problem is. Was expected. I smelled it from far far away. Anyways, the writing is good and I laughed a few times, so I was happy at the end. That was the whole point, right? View all 11 comments. Dec 11, Jade rated it did not like it Shelves: I'm so disappointed.

I couldn't really get into the book but I was still about to give it 3. I just It all made me sick and I really don't understand how Falyn could be okay with it. Sure she was hurt, but then she just got over it and decided to view spoiler [play family with Taylor and the child he had with the woman he cheated on Falyn with hide spoiler ]. Personally I could've I'm so disappointed.

Personally I could've never forgiven something like that. I got over the view spoiler [cheating hide spoiler ] part since Taylor would've never done it if he'd known that Falyn hadn't broken up with him. But the whole view spoiler [baby business. I mean jesus christ, Falyn was forced to give away her baby, then she found out she couldn't have kids anymore. She wanted Taylor to take some time and figure out whether he would really be okay with never having kids, and his solution is to go out of town, get drunk and fuck another woman with no condom, getting her pregnant.

And then when he finds about the pregnancy he decides to take full custody and raise the kid with Falyn!? Are you kidding me!? It started in September, moved to October when Falyn and Taylor finally got together. And then the next chapter started in January, and moved to February within few pages.

Then it was March, things blew over and suddenly it's June and then July. I don't mind a time gap or two, but the book basically jumped from one drama to another. It was just briefly told that they spent time together just hanging at Falyn's place etc, but we weren't shown anything but fighting.

I'm still excited for Tyler's story, and especially the America and Shepley's novella coming out in August! View all 15 comments. If this doesn't justify the need for a "fuck-to-the-no" shelf, I don't know what does View all 14 comments. Feb 27, Rose rated it did not like it Shelves: Initial reaction: Nope, this book was the worst in this series so far, and narratively showed more of a decline in the writing style.

No imagination in the plot or character resonance whatsoever. I'll admit there were a few moments when I genuinely laughed the "Macho Pikachu" line was funny, dangnabit , but it was such a slog to get through this crap that instead of taking me hours to read, it took days.

The nicest thing I can say about it was that the colors in the cover scheme were nice. The i Initial reaction: The inside on the other hand - different story. Full review: I debated a little while as to how I'd write this review, but for the sake of summary, this will be half discussion, half constructive venting. I actually had more fun buddy reading this series with my bookish friend with whom I've read the first two books in this series than flying solo for this read.

We had ideas and discussions about McGuire's expansions and New Adult as a whole that were food for thought, and I wish I could telegraph everything that we were able to discuss. She asked me if I was going to continue reading this series after the second one, and I said "Yeah, might as well - it's two more books. We can read it between us and discuss them when they release. Some might ask me: Tucker's "Ten Tiny Breaths" series and hated all of them save for "Five Ways to Fall" - I figured there was a chance that my mind would change in the progression of a series and I've been impressed since following K.

Tucker's narratives from there. There were some reads that worked the same way with me for Samantha Young and other NA authors. I haven't completely written off New Adult as a category either, I've read titles I've really liked, but I've been hard pressed to find anything from McGuire that would suggest there's some narrative growth and resonance that'd connect with me personally.

Was there a chance this would be different? Some would probably say I shouldn't have even bothered putting money in the author's pocket, but considering I paid to read Raani York's "Dragonbride" earlier this year, I figured this couldn't be worse than that experience.

So the verdict: Not to sugarcoat it - it's the worst in this series thus far. The long and short of it was that this featured very bland, underdeveloped characters, dialogue that was drawn out with more self-insertion-y comments that made me shake my head, and for another thing: I mean, it's hard to follow characters that you feel are pretty much being force fed to you from point one and that the heroine is pretty much Abby Abernathy 4.

Beautiful Sacrifice: A Novel

But the more vexing thing is that this devolved into a drama that was so over the top that I shook my head and said "Yeah, even if Jamie McGuire ends up writing five more books in this series or even a new one entirely, I'm not going to follow her as an author even if she co-writes with an author I actually do like. First, there's cases of awkward writing that are more frequent than not: This was my comment on the matter for one of my status updates on Goodreads: The reason I'm quoting this is because it's a contradiction: Dude, what level of a degree do you think a masters is?

It's graduate school, it's considered a "graduate" degree. Not to mention you pretty much contradicted yourself in the scheme of the conversation to Falyn. She should've seen through you lying because of the contradiction, but she didn't until you pointed out the truth. Taylor is just as much of a misogynistic jerk as his brothers. It's not made okay by the introduction that people "analyze him" unnecessarily and that he took a few courses in women's studies. Just because he took classes in that doesn't make him an expert in women or more likely to seduce women.

Yet he seems to think otherwise. Drama 1: You guys remember little Olive from Beautiful Oblivion? Well, view spoiler [ she's Falyn's kid.

Turns out a teacher had sex Bleh, that's an obvious power disadvantage there with her when she was barely 18 and cheated on his wife. But Taylor arranges for them to make a single memory which seems But don't think that makes him a redeemable character. Nope, not by a long shot.

Drama 2: So, even considering the spoiler for the first notation, Falyn view spoiler [can't have kids, sadly, hide spoiler ] which I felt for her on. She and Taylor fight over this factor since it conflicts with his plans for the future, and she's ready to leave him to spare him the grief. He gets mad, walks out, and it seems they're apart for several days before making up. Drama 3: Taylor is a jerk because view spoiler [ during the time he was apart from her, he cheated on Falyn by having sex with another woman while he was drunk, no protection.

Falyn discovers this when they're in the middle of a love scene and he's drunk. She stops the advance and mentions he's gotta get tested for STDs. He's known this the entire time and doesn't tell her until that moment. Drama 4: She's afraid she'll lose in a double scenario that happened to her before. Drama 5: Taylor view spoiler [gets into some kind of fire accident and is presumed dead. Drama 6: So things get to a breakneck pace and for no reason at all but just to have an HEA, view spoiler [turns out Falyn got pregnant after all.

So why was there all this point of making it like she couldn't have children in the first place?! I don't understand this rollercoaster measure of events. First it took forever to get to the central conflict of the novel in the beginning - coupled with all the misogyny and typical NA cliches, and then the latter part of the book heaps these events all on you in one go.

There were some events in the middle that brought back the characters from the previous books and Travis and Abby still felt like the standout characters, though they weren't in this book as much as previous ones , but it seemed to take up narrative space to divert from developing the ongoing issues between Taylor and Falyn. For the record: I'm done. Last book of this series I'll read because apparently the next book, "Beautiful Burn" won't be the last one, there's another which will be a sequel to "Beautiful Oblivion".

It's also the last book of McGuire's I'll read. It's just too much mishandling of sensitive and important issues and there's no rhyme or reason for these events, makes them seem trivial, really. I wanna feel for it, but not if it's just going to be handled in a hodgepodge, uneven way for drama.

There was the potential for it to be better than it was, but since it was thrown in all in one swoop with very little gravity some of it was, but it was hard to palpate and Taylor really didn't feel the gravity of what he'd done in all of it - how is he supposed to be a romantic hero? Not recommended. No more, I'm just utterly and completely done. Overall score: I just need a little help to save myself.

I really love Taylor Maddox so damn much. Way more than Trenton or even Thomas. He's one of the kindest and the sweetest of the Maddox boys and much tamer in comparison. Though he really doesn't take shit from anyone, that's the Maddox way!! They are ALL badasses! Taylor was so swoony and I fell for him right away, plus he's a hotshot firefighter and 4.

Falyn is a very stubborn woman, has the mouth of a sailor and doesn't care about rules. I love, love Falyn! Like times more than Cami and more than Liis. Finally a heroine in this series that didn't drive me nuts. Falyn story was so beautiful and Taylor stole my heart! I was so enthralled and hooked from begging to end: Definitely, an awesome book and this is a must read. If you haven't read this one yet do ASAP. That qualifies as need.

Just you. Nothing else. Anything else is a bonus. View all 6 comments. May 30, Rachel added it Shelves: I completely and utterly done with this author. My stomach hurts and I didn't even read it!!!

Jun 01, Val Vallee rated it did not like it. No, no and no the book had me up until he sleeps with another woman and his excuse is he thought they were on a break!!! Oh and he was drunk lets not forget that part. Barely 4 days into this supposed break and he is hooking up with another girl who he gets pregnant. The next day he texts Falyn telling her how much he misses her and how he just can't wait to hold her in his arms, huh?!?! Falyn was a bit too forgiving even going as far as to take some of the blame herself for suggesting he take the week to think about the fact that she can not have kids, which is ridiculous!!

He couldn't even keep it in his pants for 4 days!!! Then when the girl shows up pregnant it all just fell too perfectly into place, the fact that she did not want the child and Falyn and Taylor could keep it for themselves. Hey Falyn!! Heads Up! You know the Hot Shot Firemen who breeze into town leaving broken hearts and babies behind that YOU complained about at the beginning of the book, well you just got cheated on by one. Can not believe this author made Taylor into just another one of them.

As a Maddox who loves once and loves hard she could have really made Taylor a great character. Taylor cheating added nothing to this story at all, especially since Falyn was able to have a baby in the end. It was a weak attempt to add drama that failed. I would rather have read a few more pages on Taylor doing laundry or better yet, Tyler and him trying to convince the dad that they are insurance salesmen and not firefighters, which is also ridiculous.

I mean with all the tattoos, smoking, fighting, and good looks, I'm sure they scream "Local Statefarm agent". Switch to English sign up. Phone or email. Don't remember me. Anoosha Karen.
